About Us
Keep Learning Mid Canterbury (formerly the Learning Exchange) is an initiative of Connecting Mid Canterbury Charitable Trust, founded in 2017. The Trust's mission is to support the growth of a regenerative, resilient and caring community by connecting people, services and resources in Mid Canterbury.
Keep Learning' is one of the internationally recognised Five Ways to Wellbeing, promoted in New Zealand by the Mental Health Foundation. Through Keep Learning Mid Canterbury, alongside the Trust’s other initiative, Mid Canterbury TimeBank, we aim to help people in our district put these important wellbeing principles into practice.
The Five Ways to Wellbeing are: Give, Be Active, Keep Learning, Connect, and Take Notice.

Each year we coordinate a programme of at least 40 Keep Learning events, covering an incredibly diverse range of topics; from Thai cooking and African drumming to navigating difficult conversations, flax weaving, financial planning, astronomy, gardening, and much more. While the majority of events take place in Ashburton, we also hold events in communities across the district, including Rakaia, Methven and Staveley.
Keep Learning events are open to everyone in the community and are often led by volunteers who generously share their knowledge, skills, and passions with others. Most events are free or have a small charge to help cover costs.
In October 2021, Keep Learning Mid Canterbury expanded to include this website, a shared community platform where not only our own events are listed, but where anyone in Mid Canterbury can promote their learning opportunities and events.
Our hope is that this website will help connect people across Mid Canterbury with the many valuable resources and learning opportunities available within our community, while also supporting local groups and organisations to share and promote their events more widely.
